Our Story

At OurHouseKC, we’ve established ourselves as a Kansas City restaurant and café that serves up good beats, great eats, and smoked meats.

Joe Zahner, co-owner and head chef, knows his way around a barbeque smoker like Hendrix on a Fender Stratocaster. Growing up in the local Kansas City restaurant business among championship winning barbeque artisans, he’s learned every trick in the book on how to create the perfect smoked meats.

Maggie Zahner, co-owner and founder, handles OurHouseKC’s day-to-day operations, event planning, catering, café, music bookings, and everything in between. She too boasts an exceptional background in the BBQ and catering industries. Her long tenure as a barista and coffee connoisseur is what made the dream of expanding OurHouseKC with a café into a reality.

Together, Joe and Maggie are a powerhouse in the KC restaurant scene covering the front of house, back of house, and everything in between for an all-encompassing dining experience unlike any other! The Shawnee Mission Post, Ends Magazine, and Food and Beverage are just a few of the publications that have called out OurHouseKC’s culinary excellence.

Another element that makes OurHouseKC stand out is our genuine love of local musicians. Every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, customers can catch some of the area’s best local music acts – no cover. All are welcome to kick back and enjoy the show on our spacious rooftop patio.
